The second gaming console “Xbox 360” was introduced by Microsoft in 2005 which had a total of 84million units sold by the June 2014.

The Xbox One competes with Sony PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Wii U and Switch as part of the eighth generation of video game consoles. Announced on May 21, 2013, the Xbox One has an emphasis on internet-based features, including the ability to record and stream gameplay, and the ability to integrate with a set-top box to watch cable or satellite TV through the console with an enhanced guide interface and Kinect-based voice control.

Xbox Series X

The latest upcoming Gaming console by Microsoft is the” Xbox Series X” set to be released in holiday 2020. During the Game Awards 2019, Microsoft officially unveiled the Xbox Series X, the new Xbox model that will be released in late 2020. The console is rated four times more powerful than the Xbox One X, 8K resolution real-time ray tracing, and 120 frames-per-second renderings. Xbox Series X is stated to be backward compatible with all games and accessories currently compatible with Xbox One including original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles that are supported on Xbox One.

When the Microsoft Xbox team began working on the successor to the Xbox One consoles, their main goals were to at least double the Xbox One X’s graphic performance as measured by floating-point operations per second (FLOPS) and quadruple CPU performance compared to the Xbox One X while maintaining the same acoustic characteristics as the Xbox One. [1] As engineers assembled power requirements to meet these specifications, they saw that these parts consumed a large amount of internal energy (approximately 315 watts) and emitted a large amount of heat. This led to the decision to split the components into two separate circuit boards; one contains a processor/graphics processor, memory, and power controllers, and the second acts as a southbridge board for slower I / O functions. The boards on opposite sides of the aluminum chassis helped create air ducts for cooling.

Microsoft’s Xbox team has teased about the hardware the new Xbox that they have been working on and they have claimed that it’s going to be at least four times as powerful as the Xbox one with 120frames-per-second rendering, support for 8K resolution and the feature of ray tracing as well not to forget backward compatibility. This was revealed by Microsoft in 2019 gaming awards by the name Xbox series X and with it, it’s the release date of the holiday season 2020.

The hardware of Xbox Series X

The Xbox Series X is powered by its own AMD Zen 2 processor, which uses a 360.45 mm2 crystal with eight cores operating at a nominal frequency of 3.8 GHz or using simultaneous multithreading (SMT) at a frequency of 3.6 GHz. One processor core is for the base operating system. The graphics processor is also a special module based on the AMD RDNA 2 graphics architecture. It has a total of 56 computing units (CUs) with 3,584 cores, 52 CUs and 3,328 cores enabled and will operate at a fixed frequency of 1.825 GHz. This device is capable of 12,147 teraflops of processing power. The device comes with 16 GB of GDDR6 SDRAM, of which 10 GB operates at a speed of 560 GB / s mainly for the graphics system, and the remaining 6 GB at a speed of 336 GB / s for other computing functions. After accounting for system software, approximately 13.5 GB of memory will be available for games and other applications, with system software only retrieving from a slower pool. Xbox Series X internal storage is a 1 TB solid-state drive NVM Express (NVMe) with a native 2.4 GB / s I / O bandwidth. Thanks to the built-in compression/decompression unit, the device can transmit up to 4.8 GB / s. Its own external 1 TB fast storage is available, which works similarly to memory cards on other devices. Additional HDD storage can be added via USB connections. A Blu-ray UHD 4K optical drive is also included. The Coalition developers found that without any changes to their code, Gears 5 loads up to four times faster on Xbox Series X than on Xbox One X due to its higher memory and storage bandwidth, and can increase it after new routines are included DirectX storage.

Built like a monolithic stack, which more resembles a mini-tower PC than a traditional games console, it can be stood on its end vertically or placed horizontally – presumably to fit in a TV stand or AV rack. The top side of it is a grille, which is mainly for the heat dissipation, the other distinguishing feature is its 4K Blu-Ray slots and ports

The look of the new console is more of a practical rather than a pretty one

Accessories and the Controller

The Company plans to bring an updated version of the old controller but they have been currently working on the design which would allow a comfortable grip to most of the hand sizes. They plan to continue with the same key buttons for the controller but with the addition of the share button alongside view and menu button, this button will allow the user to record and share screenshots and video clips of their desired game and scene.

The D-Pad is a new concave design that, according to Ryan Whitaker (Microsoft), as a means of combining the usual d-pad style on the standard Xbox One controller and the Elite version to adapt to different game styles. They plan to continue using two AA batteries, and a set of batteries will be available as an accessory. In their research, they found out from focus group studies that the players were almost 50/50 divided by the use of batteries in the recharging process, and thus gave the controller flexibility for both sides.

The controller will also be compatible with the previous Microsoft’s console The Xbox one x, where the console will also be compatible with Xbox oneX controller, this is to reduce the cost for their users in case of multiplayer.

System software

It was told that the company wanted faster loading time and better frame rates more than improved resolution and in this Console, they have finally achieved it with their new combination of CPU and GPU. Not only that the new console will also allow the user to resume multiple games at the same time even resuming a suspended game after the reboot of the console.

Games For consoles

Microsoft has stated that the new console Xbox series X will support older console Xbox one X, including the Xbox 360 and original Xbox console names that are currently supported through backward compatibility on the Xbox One, thus resulting in the new console supporting all four generations of games.

Unofficial news

Something that hasn’t been confirmed and is still unclear that whether there will be a second, cheaper next-gen console coming too, but according to the rumors there is a cheaper console on its way too with the name series S which might be revealed in May 2020 but for now nothing is certain yet there is a high likely hood of happening so but for that, we’ll have to wait to find out.

The Rivalry

Gamer or not we are all familiar with the rivalry between Xbox and The Play Station and how both console players out there defend their console against the opposite side, now with both companies releasing new console models during the same holiday season 2020 it is clear that this is nothing but war. As the supporters of the, both sides are already out there backing their camp and rooting for their team to be the winner of this war. Therefore the pressure in extreme on both the camps as for their supporters their victory is the only thing that’s worth living for, whoever wins one thing we can say for sure is that both the consoles to be released are going to be something out of this world.
